fragile balance of marine ecosystems
well you’re probably thinking one small change wouldn’t really affect an ecosystem this big like the ocean which covers more than half of the earth
but if you’re thinking that you’re probably wrong
the ocean is actually really delicate and connected and even the smallest change can have a huge impact
sea otters’ effect on the ecosystem
sea otters eat sea urchins
sea urchins eat kelp
and kelp forests are home to tons of marine life
when sea otters decreased, sea urchins increased a lot and started eating too much kelp
because of that, kelp forests started disappearing
and a lot of marine life lost their homes
the result is that other species lost their habitat and food
and the whole ecosystem got messed up because of the decrease of just one species
